Our new Senior Men’s Head Coach is Ged Corcoran

Announcement by

Jim Reynolds
Chairman of the Board, RLI

April 11th, 2022

It is with great pleasure that I announce on behalf of the Board of RLI that, with immediate effect, our new Senior Men’s Head Coach is Ged Corcoran.

Ged has been a long-standing servant to Rugby League Ireland both as a player, winning 11 senior caps including the 2008 World Cup, and as Ireland’s assistant coach for the 2013, 2017, and up to now, the 2021 RL World Cups. Heading into the run-up to Ireland competing in RLWC2021, Ged brings a wealth of direct experience and knowledge, in preparing a squad to compete in the highest competition in our great sport, to his new role as Head Coach.

Ged was born and bred in Co Offaly in Ireland with his family moving to England when he was six years of age thus making Ged the first Irish-born Head Coach of an Ireland Men’s RL World Cup Team. It was in England that Ged got into playing Rugby League remarkably winning his first professional contract at only fifteen years of age with Halifax.

Ged Corcoran is well known to our grassroots players in Ireland being heavily involved with them, especially our Pathways players. Player development is an area that Ged wants to use his Head Coach position to help drive even further with an emphasis on developing players for CDM2025.

The Board of RLI wishes Ged, his Coaching Team, and the Ireland Squad every success as they prepare to face Jamaica, Lebanon, and New Zealand in RLWC2021 starting in October.

Other announcements regarding the Ireland Coaching Team will be made later this week.
