Rugby League Ireland are pleased to announce Dave Parkinson as their Men’s Media Manager ahead of the Rugby League World Cup.
Dave has been writing and talking about the sport since the early 2000s and has a wide experience base having worked in club rugby league with Leigh Centurions, at community level with Leigh East, developing copy for matchday programmes, local and regional press in addition to reporting on games for League Express. He was also Media Manager for a BARLA tour to Fiji and at county level with Lancashire, more recently operating as England Community Lions Media Manager and as Media Manager for the National Conference League.
“I was delighted to be asked to come on board by Ged Corcoran, his team, and Jim Reynolds, chair of Rugby League Ireland.” Dave reflected, “I had the pleasure of meeting Jim last year when the Community Lions played in Dublin and have known Ged for a long while, often talking with him at launch events and press conferences.”
“Over many years I’ve gained all kinds of experience and skills from interviews to podcasts and matchday commentary and have held, and continue to hold multiple roles and interests in the game. Sadly I was never destined for stardom on the pitch but have always had that desire to push the rugby league word further. I hope that people will first see my enthusiasm and genuine love for the sport, and I feel that getting the chance to work with Ireland at such a prestigious tournament is a great opportunity. I’m delighted to get started in the role.”
Speaking of Dave’s appointment Rugby League Ireland Head Coach Ged Corcoran said, “I am really pleased to bring Dave on board. I’ve known him for a few years and have always followed what he’s done. He is well respected within the game and I feel that his enthusiasm, knowledge, and general demeanor will fit in well with what we are building around the Ireland setup. Having already chatted with him, we have some interesting ideas for content that we want to explore in the build-up to the World Cup.”
The appointment of Dave is the first of several announcements to be made by Rugby League Ireland in the coming weeks.
