RLI announce Women’s Head Coach

Rugby League Ireland are delighted to announce that Matt Kennerson has been appointed as our new Head Coach of our National Women’s Team.

With qualification games for the RL World Cup 2026 being set for this summer, Matt has an immediate focus and is already putting the final preparations into place for his first two training sessions with the Women’s Squad. He will be a familiar face for much of the squad, currently Head Coach with the unbeaten Dublin City Exiles Women’s Team, a position he has held since women’s Rugby League started in Ireland in 2021. His experience within Rugby League goes back almost thirty years to when he first took to the field in West Sydney. Matt’s career added on coaching roles at a young age in his native Australia from 2009 with various RL, Touch, and Oztag teams including reaching several State Finals.

Joining up with Ged Corcoran’s Performance Staff, Kennerson will work closely with Coaching, Medical, and S&C staff from our Pathways, Wheelchair, and Men’s teams to deliver our “Ireland Way” Performance Camps, providing a unified approach to delivering a high performance environment for our up and coming, current, and future stars of the game.

RLI congratulate Matt on his appointment and wish our National Women’s Team every success in the campaign ahead!
