RLI is governed by a nine person Board being six elected from Members, including the Chair, Secretary, and the Treasurer, and three independent members appointed by the Board. RLI is proud that its governing Board has a 45% female gender balance.
RLI is a full senior member of both the European Rugby League and International Rugby League, the Governing Bodies for European and Global Rugby League respectively.
RLI is also a full member of Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland authorities. We are fully compliant with the Irish Government’s Code for Sport as administered by Sport Ireland. RLI is also a full member of the Federation of Irish Sport.
Domestically RLI administrates over two Men’s Senior Leagues (Premiership & Championship) and a Women’s league with Clubs all over the island competing to make it to their respective Grand Final and be crowned All Ireland Champions.
Internationally in 2022 our RLI Women’s Team will compete in the European Championships with our U19’s youths competing in the European Championships Tournament in Italy in September.
In June, Ireland hosts the Students Tri-Nations Tournament in Galway.
October and November 2022 sees the running of the, postponed from last year, Rugby League World Cup, RLWC2021. Ireland is extremely proud to have two Teams competing in the Tournament in England. RLWC2021 will be the most inclusive sports World Cup Tournament ever held.
The RLI Wheelchair Team will be based in London where they have the special honour of being the first match in the Wheelchair World Cup event, playing Spain. They are in Group A and then have games against the two strongest Teams in the world. Australia and England.
Our Men’s team will be based in Leeds and compete in Group C, playing against Jamaica, Lebanon, and New Zealand.
