It’s younger and younger they are getting!
The Belfast Eagles RLFC came about after Peter Robson, & Lisa O'Connor felt there was a desire for Children to play a sport never put on offer to them before , whether they came from a rugby union or a non-rugby background. The main aim was to get more children active! So the Belfast Eagles was born and began its first season in 2016 seeing boys and girls aged between 4 - 13 getting involved.
The Charles Hurst Dacia Cup came about for the first time after 2 years in 2018, it was the Brain child of Peter Robson Ulster Youth Rep for RLI with the support of Steve Hogan Ulster Rep for RLI which seen one Belfast Eagles Youth team play 2 English Clubs Orrell St James and Salford City Rooster take part. The competition was aimed promoting rugby league to both teenagers and children on the Island of Ireland.
The interest in the Cup this year has already grown with schools in the ROI along with clubs in England already showing a keen interest in taking part in 2019. Growing from the 3 teams that took part last year, We encourage boys and girls along with anyone interested in forming their own team to get in touch as our aim is to having more teenagers and children playing. While more players would certainly help, so would more supporters as its free to come along to watch and get involved.
This year's cup will once again be held on the 27th & 28th of July at Malone RFC Gibson Park Belfast BT6 9GL.
