“Of particular pride is the inclusion of 11 Ireland based players who had no idea, several months ago, that trying out our great sport would lead so quickly to them being on the verge of putting on that green shirt and making their families, friends and the Country so proud!”

He added: “I would like to say a huge congratulations to each and every one in this history making squad, you truly are pioneers for Irish Women’s sport, and the very best of Irish luck to you all.”

Further information on the fixture will be announced in due course, keep an eye on our social media pages for more on the Women’s International team.

Fantastic achievement for Alex and all the women. What an honour to play in the inaugural game. And well deserved too.
