Saturday 9th August 2025 - Westmanstown RFC

📍 Venue: Garda Westmanstown RFC📒 Referee: James Spencer
In a thrilling Grand Final showdown at Garda Westmanstown RFC, the Banbridge Broncos ended the Longhorns’ unbeaten league season with a commanding 30-12 victory. The Broncos wasted no time stamping their authority on the game, with a barnstorming early try from Marisi McGoon giving them a 6-0 lead. The Longhorns, defending champions and league leaders all season, responded swiftly through a well-worked try from Gearoid Quinn, which Liam Coyne expertly converted to level the scores at 6-6.From there, the Broncos took control, adding tries from Cody Waters, John Sturgeon, Onisi Burekama, and Aaron McMaster, steadily pulling away to 24-6 before Longhorns managed to get back on the scoreboard thanks to Shane Clarke, with another Liam Coyne conversion narrowing the gap to 24-12. However, the Broncos sealed the deal with a final try, pushing the score to 30-12.The Broncos’ goal kicking was well distributed, with Jonny Dunlop, Michael Lawton, and Dinis Manso all contributing conversions.Frustration crept into the Longhorns’ play at times, culminating in two sin bins: Evan Coade was binned 🟨 for persistent high tackles, while Daire Kemp sat out for 10 mins 🟨 for dissent. These disciplinary setbacks further hampered the Longhorns’ chances of mounting a comeback. In the end, Banbridge Broncos’ relentless attack and disciplined defense secured them the title, marking a memorable day in Rugby League Ireland history by toppling the previously unbeaten champions.
